Health Assessments and Medical for Airside Driver

We undertake Airside medicals, Airside driver health assessments (aka Airside medical) are a vital element that are performed by our doctors to reduce the risks of working in a safety critical role. Airside Driver medicals are vital to ensure that employees working in airports do not have any medical conditions that could affect the safety of themselves, other people and aircraft.

Medical standards can vary from airport to airport in the UK. Generally, most airports require a full medical certificate in line with CAP790 requirements

Medical Requirements for Airside Driver Medicals

Drivers must be medically fit to drive to the DVLA standards, ALL medicals require a Colour Vision test and a Hearing Test. We undertake a medical assessment in line with the DVLA Group 2 standards. A D4 Medical form is completed and your medical certificate of fitness is completed.

When do I Need an Airside Medicals

The Airside Driving Medicals are required at:

  • an initial and renewal medical declaration to align with DVLA standards (From age 45 the assessment is needed every 3-5 years and annually over the age of 65.)
  • medical assessments where DVLA health conditions are declared by the driver
  • reviews following driving accidents or incidents at work.
  • Change in job role
  • Transfering to a different Employer

Please note A driver must disclose to the DVLA and their employer any medical condition or prescribed medication which may affect their ability to drive safely. Further guidance can be found on the Medical Information section of the DVLA website.

Where the DVLA places a condition or restriction on a driver this must be considered by the employer and medical advice obtained. The employer shall inform the aerodrome operator of any such condition or restriction.
