WHAT’S INVOLVED in a Halton Borough Council Taxi Driver Medical
The Taxi Medical examination will vary between each Local Authority as they decide what questions and tests are involved in the medical. For Your Licensing Authority an eye test, and a blood pressure test is mandatory. Every medical must follow the same guidelines that a driver must reach Group 2 Medical Standards. Your medical will include the following:
1. Taxi Council Medical Form (Available from your Council’s Website or see below)
2. ID (Driving licence, passport + Utility Bill)
3. Driving glasses/contact lenses & Prescription (If Appplicable)
4. Prescription Medications (If Appplicable)

After the medical examination is complete, you will be issued with a fit to drive certificate which you can use to obtain your private hire licence with your Council. You can either post the completed Taxi Medical Form with your application to the Licensing Department for your chosen Council or you can email this to your council.
If you do not send all the forms together, the processing of your application may be delayed.
Some Local Authorities require a Doctor to have access to medical records when completing the medical, This may need to be requested from your GP surgery. Please note you do require your Medical records / Gp Medical Summary for Knowsley, Oldham, Rochdale and Blackburn. For most applications you must bring your medical summary care records. Please not TFL, Wolverhampton Council, and Stockton on Tees Council require full medical records. Please not this list is not exhaustive, call us to discuss if you are unsure. Call 01282936900 today.
Most GP Surgeries are able to provide your Medical Summary Care Records on the same day and Full Medical Records within 28 days. This service is for Free, GP Surgeries (under GDPR / SAR) are not allowed to charge for this request.
Please Contact your surgery to obtain the relevant records for your medical. Some Surgeries require written authority for such requests. Please see link below for sample letters that you can download and use for this request.
