Hay fever symptoms
If you suffer from hay fever you’ll experience a range of symptoms including:
- Blocked or runny nose
- Itchy or watery eyes
- Blocked sinuses, headaches and migraines
- Wheezing and shortness of breath
Some of these symptoms may be managed with medication and some severe cases might need relief from a hay fever injection.
Hay fever or allergic Rhinitis is an allergy to pollen or even dust and mould. According to Allergy UK, hay fever affects about 20% of the population. If you have a family history of asthma or eczema, you are most likely to also have hay fever.
Hay fever treatments and the hay fever injection
There are a number of hay fever treatments, which can help with your day-to-day symptoms. The most effective way to treat hay fever is a mixture of antihistamines, nasal sprays and eye drops. All of these products help to provide all-day relief from hay fever symptoms.
If your symptoms are severe you may be eligible for the hay fever injection ( subject to doctor’s discretion).
What is a hay fever injection?
The hay fever injection is a steroid treatment, not an antihistamine. Steroids are a powerful anti-inflammatory medication that helps suppress the body’s immune response when it overreacts without the need for tablets, sprays or other medication.
Does the hay fever injection work?
The hay fever injection can be beneficial when other treatments have failed. Our Expert Clinicians will discuss the benefits and risks of administering this medication with you on the day of your consultation.
How long do hay fever injections last?
Usually, one injection is enough to keep symptoms at bay for the entire hay fever season.
Please note, we do not administer an injection for hay fever if you are under 18 or if the treatment is deemed unsuitable. In some instances, a second hay fever injection may be required during the same season. This should be done within 2-3 weeks after the initial injection. If you do find that a second injection is required we can administer the jab at a reduced price of £50 if suitable.
