Who needs a Circuit Powerboat Racing Medical?
All UK residents wishing to compete in Circuit Powerboat Racing in Great Britain must hold a valid Powerboat Racing licence issued by the BPBA, with circuit licences issued by the Circuit Powerboat Association (CPA). Those intending to compete internationally must hold a valid International Powerboat Racing licence issued by both the BPBA and UIM.
What is the CPA?
The CPA is the recognised authority for Circuit Powerboat Racing in Great Britain by the National Governing Body the British Power Boat Association (BPBA) as recognised by the UIM the international governing body for Powerboat Racing.
All licensed competitors must complete a medical examination each year before submitting their licence application.
Attending your Circuit Powerboat Racing medical
Please arrive at your appointment time and ensure your section of the form is completed.
Bring valid photographic identification (passport or driving licence) and your glasses if you wear them. Please do not wear contact lenses to the examination, as you may be asked to remove them.
You will be required to provide a urine sample as part of the assessment (this is not a drug test).
A standard medical examination takes approximately 15 minutes.
During your Powerboat Racing Medical, the doctor will:
Verify your identity
Measure your blood pressure
Record any medications you are currently taking
Note any hospital consultants you see regularly
Record your height, weight, smoking status, and alcohol consumption (bringing recent measurements can be helpful)
Review and document your medical history
Examine any supporting documents from your GP or specialists (e.g. cardiology, neurology, orthopaedics, endocrinology, diabetes)
What you need to bring to the Powerboat Racing medical:
An original or printed copy of the Circuit Powerboat Racing medical form, with your personal details completed
Valid photo ID (passport or driving licence)
Your GP’s name, address, and contact details
Details of any medications you are taking (including dosage)
Your glasses or contact lenses (note: contact lenses must be removed during the exam)
Any previous medical certificate (if applicable)
